Persch Tablets Specification
- Requires Prescription: Yes
- Generics: Risperidone
- Used For: Schizophrenia
Mechanism of Action The precise mechanism of action of risperidone in schizophrenia is not fully understood. However, its therapeutic effects are thought to be due to its antagonism at dopamine Type 2 (D2) and serotonin Type 2 (5HT2) receptors. The clinical efficacy of risperidone is attributed to the combined activity of risperidone and its primary metabolite, 9-hydroxyrisperidone (paliperidone). The drug’s effects at other receptors may explain additional clinical outcomes.
